Back-to-School Pest Control 101

Back-to-School Pest Control 101

The summer months go by way too quickly! Can you believe it’s already time for your kiddos to be packing their backpacks and heading back to school? With kids being back in person this year for class, we thought that you might need some back-to-school pest control 101.

Here are 4 tips from our neighborhood Bug Guys for keeping your kids safe this school year:

1. Keep Backpacks Clean

Backpacks are an easy feeding ground for leftover crumbs, germs from other students, and of course, pests! Make sure you keep your little one’s backpack regularly cleaned out and free of food. To avoid bed bugs, keep backpacks out of bedrooms and in common areas.

2. Clean Out Lunch Boxes

Another grimy back-to-school item to keep clean are lunch boxes! Make sure you are wiping down lunch boxes right away and throwing out food every day after school. This will ensure that your kiddos’ lunch box and your kitchen stay free of ants and critters!

3. Change Bedding Out Regularly

Bed bugs are sneaky little critters and are known for finding their way home from school and into your little one’s bed. To avoid bed bugs, make sure you are cleaning bedding often and swapping out sheets. Also, be on the lookout for bed bugs. Don’t know what to look out for? Here are some tips.

4. Check For Lice

Last, but certainly not least, check for lice! Lice is one of the most common back-to-school bugs and every parents’ worst nightmare. The best way to prevent lice is to discourage your child from sharing hats, helmets, hair accessories, or any clothing items with other children. If anyone in your child’s class comes in contact with lice, be sure to check your child as soon as you can. For tips on how to treat head lice, click here.
