Checklist for Pest-Proofing Your Kitchen

Just like humans, pests love food! Pests can be a common fret in the household, especially in the kitchen. To avoid pests invading your tasty treats, here is a checklist for pest-proofing your kitchen: 

1. Look Out for Cracks

An easy way for pests to come in and out of your home are through openings. Make sure to look for cracks or holes around windows, water pipes, and around your stove. To avoid having an easy way for pests to come in, seal any type of crack that you see in your kitchen. 

2. Keep Your Squeaky Kitchen Clean 

Although keeping your kitchen clean seems to be a no-brainer, it is important to always be cleaning your kitchen, especially in the springtime. Pests tend to gravitate towards crumbs, so make sure every time you cook, you are cleaning your counters and shelves before and after use. 

3. Get Rid of Old Food Quickly 

It’s easy to forget about the food that has been sitting in the back of your pantry for a while. But that is the kind of food that pests love! Creepy crawly unwanted house guests tend to cling to expired food, so it is a good idea to go through your pantry and get rid of anything that has expired to eliminate the risk of pests invading your kitchen.  

4. Proper Storage

In case pests do come into the kitchen, it is important to keep them out of your food at the very least. To avoid critters getting into your food, make sure to invest in airtight containers with secure lids.
