3 Tips for How to Prevent Fleas & Ticks on Dogs

As a dog owner, you know the joy that comes along with having a furry friend, as well as, the work that comes with it. If you’re having pest trouble at home, dogs can often be the root cause of it. To prevent pests from pets you must be proactive – try these 3 tips for preventing fleas and ticks on dogs.

1. Vacuum

Our Bug Guys always say – a clean home is a pest-free home! Vacuuming your home regularly is a good habit for not only preventing fleas and ticks but also other pests. Fleas and ticks tend to hide out under furniture and hard-to-reach places, so be sure to get under cracks, couches, and crevices when cleaning and vacuuming. Also, make sure that you don’t let the sucked-up debris sit in the vacuum or the trash. If there are fleas and ticks, then you will want to dispose of them immediately.

2. Take Care of the Yard

Another tip for maintaining a pest-free home is maintaining a pest-free yard. Fleas and ticks reside in your yard, so ensuring that it is mowed and trimmed will keep them at bay. This fall, make sure that you are regularly raking leaves and keeping the yard as clean as possible.

3. Inspect Your Dog Regularly

Combing your dog’s hair every other day is a great way to prevent fleas and ticks. If you see anything that might look suspicious, make sure to take treatment measures right away by treating your dog with medication or bathing them with tick and flea shampoo. Another helpful trick is to add vaseline to the comb tips. If your dog has any fleas or ticks, they will stick to the comb.
